Great Gold Medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles

Castillo Perelada Brut Reserva and 5 Fincas 2007

Castillo Perelada has obtained the maximum award of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles twice this year. Both the cava Brut Reserva and the red still wine 5 Fincas 2007 have been awarded a Great Gold Medal that puts them among the best wines of the contest, with a score of 92-100 points.


8,397 wines from 52 countries took part in the XIXth edition of the contest, which was held at the Portuguese city of Guimaraes from 4th to 6th of May. Almost 320 tasters from almost 50 different countries selected among the best wines those that have been awarded the highest prize. Only 84 got the Great Gold Medal this year (about 1% of the tasted wines).

Born in 1994, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is an itinerant contest since 2006. This is a refference event which has been held in European cities such as Maastricht, Bordeaux, Valencia, Palermo or Luxembourg.

Only three cavas have been awarded a Great Gold Medal in 2012. Castillo Perelada Brut Reserva is made with the three typical varieties of cava (Macabeu, Xarel·lo, Parellada) and stays in the cellar during fifteen months before disgorging. It has a pale yellow colour and a good bubble detachment. Thanks to its ageing, it has developed a fine aroma with fruit hints. Its well balanced structure, elegance and sensorial richness form an unmistakable personality.

5 Fincas Reserva 2007 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (25%), Garnatxa (25%), Merlot (20%), Syrah (15%) and Samsó (Cariñena) (15%) made with selected grapes from the five vineyards that Castillo Perelada owns in the Empordà. After twenty months in Bordeaux barrels, 50% fine American oak and 50% Allier French oak, it has a deep cherry red colour. Its intense aroma reminds of ripe fruit, with balsamic notes and a toasted background. In the mouth it is fleshy, well-structured and balanced. Its tannins are round and fine. It has a very fresh acidity. This is a wine with a great personality, nice in the mouth, with a long after-taste. Meer info klik hier
